The Story

Viberg is still owned and managed by the same family since its creation in 1931.

They use traditional manufacturing methods and only the best components sourced from around the world: custom brass nails from Japan, heavyweight insoles from Spain, Vibram outsoles from Italy, eyelets and hardware from the USA and more.

Much of the manufacturing process looks the same today as it did when Edwin Viberg founded the company nearly 100 years ago. They have managed to preserve his methods and quality, while selectively introducing modern materials and techniques.

Their uncompromising approach to quality extends all the way through to the leather sourcing philosophy. They travelled the world to find tanneries that embody the same old world ideals and small batch production that they aim to preserve. Their leathers come mostly from small, family run tanneries in the USA, UK, Italy, France, Japan and other countries. They work directly alongside these suppliers to form real, sustainable partnerships and develop unique and exclusive products.

For my second derby shoe, my choice is a waxed kudu leather. It's a leather coming from African Antelope, with a very soft feeling on the reverse and a buffed finish on the grain side.

Very unique characteristics that will look good with a casual or a dressier outfit.

This derby is built on the 2030 last.
