Flannel Workshirt in Burgundy/Brown/Cream Plaid
Warehouse flannel shirts are woven on traditional power looms found today in only a few regions of Japan. These vintage machines are not used simply to create selvedge flannel, the selvedge is merely a byproduct. Their true purpose is to preserve the natural character of the yarn.
Like vintage denim, classic flannel was originally woven with irregular slub yarns. When these yarns are woven on modern high-speed looms under strong tension, their unique texture is lost. By contrast, traditional looms weave the fabric under gentler tension, allowing the yarn’s natural irregularities and depth to remain intact.
After weaving, the fabric is brushed on the reverse side following traditional methods, creating a soft surface, subtle depth in the pattern, and a rich, warm texture.
The result is flannel with a character that can only be achieved through this heritage process, recognizable by the presence of selvedge, which Warehouse incorporates at the gusset just as seen in vintage flannel shirts of the 1960s.
