The term "Cowichan" in Cowichan sweaters originates from the traditional winter garments worn by the Cowichan people, a native population residing on Vancouver Island in Canada. These sweaters and cardigans are specially handcrafted using sheep's wool, which contains thick oils and fats, providing superior water repellency and cold protection. The distinct texture and weight of these garments, as well as their intricate geometric patterns and depiction of the sacred bird from the Cowichan tribe, make them truly unique.
For this particular Cowichan knit, Jelado have partnered with GIM, utilizing their production expertise to create a one-of-a-kind piece featuring a rare bison pattern from the 1960s.
